Submission types

Author Application Form: This will be used to evaluate potential authors. Make sure to review the submission information at https://research.fs.usda.gov/silvics/get-involved/author-a-chapter before submitting an application.

Chapter: This is how completed chapters should be submitted. Please make sure your format matches that of the template provided.

Additional required files
-Please submit the Author Release Form for all authors not in the USDA Forest Service.

Editorial and Peer Review Process

After chapter submission, the following review steps will take place:
-Editorial review
-Pre-review
-Two peer reviews
-Additional section-specific review, as available and needed
-Chapter returned to author and resubmitted
-Review of revisions made
-Policy review
-Species Group review/approval
-Final editorial review
-USDA FS publication approval

Publication details

To publish, the USDA FS requires an author release form from all authors outside the organization which acknowledges that the published chapter will be in the public domain. Lead authors will hear from the USNAP team regarding an additional manuscript approval form.
